We examined the lifestyles and health standards of the people, especially their awareness of oral health. Then we analysed nicotine, its presence and value in modern medicine.We found that the use of nicotine as a stimulant adopted socially and hygienically unclean forms of consumption such as smoking and chewing tobacco leading to hazardous and often fatal side effects. But we were committed to a socially acceptable and a therapeutic or health-oriented application of the plant leaves. Eventually we also identified in ancient Ayurvedic texts, such as the Charak Samhita, the centuries old ingredients that, in combination, heightened the curative properties of tobacco. Tobacco has been rated the best antibiotic and gives relief from mouth diseases like pyorrhea, bleeding gums and help in gastric problems.
